ABOUT

The Kiwanis Club of CyberConnect Jamaica (KCCJ) was organized on September 17, 2012 under the leadership of Lt. Governor Stanley Dunwell of Kiwanis Division 23 East of the Eastern Canada and the Caribbean District.  The Club is co-sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Eastern St. Andrew and the Kiwanis Club of Constant Spring.  Seventeen persons were recorded as Charter member and recoginized by Kiwanis International.

It all unfolded in the year 2012-2013 when the membership of Kiwanis Club of Eastern St. Andrew (ESA) eagerly embarked upon the process of forming an internet club. An organizing committee was established and chaired by

DP Eileen.

All the prospective members as well as us Kiwanians looked forward to the first meeting which was held at Altamont Court, ESA’s regular meeting place.  At this meeting our Distinguished Lieutenant Governor of Excellence (DLGE) Leighton McKnight, gave a very stirring 5 minute talk entitled “What Kiwanis Means to Me”. The persons in attendance were more enlightened on the importance of giving service to community and mankind.

The main feature “New Club Preparation” was presented by our Distinguished Governor Trevor Dunn. He spoke and informed us on all the formal decisions the members must vote on at the Organization Meeting.

A number of meetings ensued thereafter with other contributions from the DG Trevor, DLG Stan, DLG Willie, DLGE Leighton, DLG Gerthlyn, and other members who gave sterling support.

One of the most memorable meetings was the 4th Pre Organizational meeting held on September 5th, 2012 at 1 Winchester Road, Kingston 10, at the office of the Jamaica Exporters, Association.   After much discussion everyone seemed to be in agreement with the name “The Kiwanis Club of Cyber Connect Kingston Jamaica “.
However the members and sponsors thought the name was too long and so that name was subsequently shortened to “The Kiwanis Club of CyberConnect Jamaica”.

An olive branch was later extended to the Kiwanis Club of Constant Spring [KCCS] to join ESA as co-sponsors of this initiative. KCCS thereafter placed a prominent member on the organizing committee throughout the subsequent meetings that led up to the day of reckoning.

On Wednesday September 19, 2012 the official launch of the cyber space club was cemented in the hallmark of Kiwanis International forever. The Kiwanis Club of CyberConnect Jamaica was off and running under the Stewardship of President Tammer-Gay Mitchell Charter President supported by a complement of 4 officers and 5 Directors of the Board. Our other Presidents are Distinguished President Zoya Salmon Powell 2013-14, Distinguished President Andrew Samuels 2014-15, Distinguished President Adrian Whyte 2015-16, 2016-17 Distinguished President Lois Spence, 2017-18 Distinguished President Althea Blissett, 2019-20 Immediate Past President Leroy Brown and 2020-21 Elizabeth Miller J.P..
